ABOUT US

Cedar Hill/West Bank Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organization incorporated in 2013 by concerned members of the Cedar Hill community, located on the West Bank of the Cape Fear River. The foundation’s vision is to enhance the cultural history of the citizens in the region and in particular the Cedar Hill/West Bank corridor through assimilation and documentation both visually and orally, and by being a focal point for partnership with other organizations.

The first project of the foundation’s attention was the condition and possible restoration of Reaves Chapel Church which was built somewhere between 1866 to 1893 by former slaves of the Cedar Hill Plantation after the civil war. Many community members are descendants of Central and West African slaves known as Gullah-Geechee people. The restoration of the Reaves Chapel Church would preserve the history of African American in the area and also add to the quality of life for the community as a meeting place to learn and discuss the past as well as the future.
